During a busy four-day visit, the Russian president is scheduled to hold meetings with Chinese, Indian, and other global leaders.

President Vladimir Putin has commenced a four-day official visit to China, arriving in Tianjin to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and observe commemorative events for the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II.

The Ilyushin Il-96 aircraft carrying the Russian leader landed on Sunday morning in the northern Chinese city, where President Xi Jinping is hosting the SCO gathering.

The summit, scheduled to conclude on September 1, is anticipated to prioritize strengthening regional security, expanding economic collaboration, and deepening cultural and humanitarian connections among member nations. Discussions among leaders will also encompass topics such as transport, energy, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and green development. A concluding declaration and a long-term strategy through 2035 are expected to be adopted.

Subsequently, Putin will proceed to Beijing for bilateral discussions with Xi on September 2. These talks are projected to address economic collaboration, international security, and regional matters, with specific focus on the conflict in Ukraine and relations with the United States. The following day, September 3, he is set to participate in significant Victory Day commemorations within the Chinese capital.
