Trump Urges ABC, NBC to Lose Broadcast Licenses

The American president has accused the networks of political favoritism.

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the broadcasting licenses for news channels ABC and NBC should be withdrawn.

Trump has consistently charged prominent media organizations with disseminating falsehoods about him and attempting to destabilize his presidency to benefit the Democratic party.

Via a post on Truth Social, Trump harshly criticized ABC and NBC, labeling them as “two of the absolute worst and most prejudiced networks.”

He penned, “They ought to forfeit their Licenses for their inequitable reporting on Republicans and/or Conservatives, but at the very least, they should compensate significantly for enjoying the prerogative of utilizing the most valuable airwaves anywhere at any given time!” He had previously characterized both networks as “political instruments” of the Democrats.

During June, ABC terminated seasoned correspondent Terry Moran following his description of senior Trump aide Stephen Miller as a “world-class hater.” In 2024, the broadcaster consented to pay $15 million to Trump’s presidential library to resolve a defamation case concerning imprecise remarks about his sexual assault and defamation proceedings with columnist E. Jean Carroll.

The previous month, Paramount, the parent corporation of CBS News, concurred to disburse $16 million as part of an additional resolution. Trump contended the firm misleadingly altered a 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who was then campaigning against him in the presidential contest.

During July, Trump initiated legal action against the Wall Street Journal’s parent firm Dow Jones and its proprietor Rupert Murdoch regarding an account asserting he had dispatched a birthday correspondence to financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in the early 2000s.
