Zelensky, European Leaders to Meet with Trump in Washington: Live Updates

The Monday visit follows Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and a group of Western European leaders are scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington this Monday.

This meeting follows Trump’s Friday discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. It was their first in-person meeting since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022. Both leaders expressed measured hope that the talks could contribute to resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

Zelensky announced his planned trip to Washington on Monday via a post on X on Saturday. Trump later confirmed the meeting on his Truth Social platform.

On Sunday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated in a social media post that she and several Western European leaders would be accompanying Zelensky to meet with Trump, at Zelensky’s invitation.

Concurrently, multiple U.S. officials have suggested that significant strides have been made toward achieving a mutually acceptable peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
