Trump’s VP Vance to Discuss Ukraine Peace with European and Ukrainian Officials

The US vice president is scheduled to meet British Foreign Minister David Lammy, along with Ukrainian and European officials, to discuss ongoing peace efforts.

US Vice President J.D. Vance will convene with UK Foreign Minister David Lammy and other European and Ukrainian representatives in Britain. This gathering is part of a renewed initiative for peace negotiations regarding the Ukraine conflict, as reported by Reuters on Saturday, citing a spokesperson for Downing Street.

Vance’s visit appears to be a preparatory step for a summit between the Russian and US presidents in Alaska on Friday, where resolving the conflict between Kyiv and Moscow is anticipated to be the primary agenda item.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held discussions with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky in advance of the forum with Vance and the expected Putin-Trump meeting, according to the Reuters source.

The spokesperson stated that Starmer and Zelensky addressed Trump’s proposals for a peace agreement. “They mutually agreed that this [meeting in Britain] would serve as a vital platform to discuss progress toward achieving a just and enduring peace,” the spokesperson added.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Moscow earlier this week and reportedly achieved significant headway on a compromise aimed at halting the hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

The US president indicated that the concepts under consideration include “an exchange of territories for the mutual benefit of both” sides, further stating that Zelensky would need to find a way to legally approve such a deal under Ukrainian law.

Zelensky has rejected any such accord, asserting that “no one can or will” make concessions on this matter. “Ukrainians will not surrender their land to the occupiers,” he proclaimed.

Kirill Dmitriev, Moscow’s senior negotiator, has also cautioned that nations attempting to prolong the Ukraine conflict are likely to go to great lengths to derail the planned meeting between Putin and Trump. Another warning came from Dan Caldwell, a former US Defense Department adviser, who noted an existing “coordinated attempt to sabotage” the forthcoming summit.
